Thumbscrews & Boilermaker

Here are some panels from Hellcity 2, a lot of the action in the second installment of this graphic novel, written by Macon Blair, revolves around these two hired hit-men, Thumbscrews, the short rat-like one and Boilermaker, the heavy hitter in the plaid jacket. I'm not gonna go into too many details as far as plot, don't want to give too much away. I've been reading a lot of Ian Flemming's James Bond novels recently and I've definitely been influenced by it. In the novels Bond is frequently up against all kinds of hired killers, some underworld gang and mafia types (see "Diamonds are Forever and "The Spy Who Loved Me", and read the books those two films are shit, despite one of them being a Connery) What as influenced me the most is the way many of Bonds adversaries revel in the death and havoc they reek. When drawing Thumbscrews & Boilermaker I try and really push the fact that they enjoy their work in a place where it's pretty every demon's job to spread misery. The two hired goons show up in Hellcity 1, but only in a few panels close to the end. In volume two readers will get to see these two cause lots of carnage and mayhem, Hopefully I'll get around to posting more stuff from Hellcity, some exclusive sketches and pin-ups you won't get in the book when it comes out sometime in 2008, fingers crossed.

Cricket Gets Her Heart Broken Again

So I just started a new Bill, Cricket and Frankie comic for Popgun vol 2 and I thought about really wanting to bring back James, a character that was introduced in a comic I did called Mod vs. Mod back when I was on Graphic Smash. not only am I interested in bringing James back but also expanding on his two-headed girlfriends Bonnie and Claudia. in the story the two sisters didn't have much of a personality. I imagine they befriend Cricket in an attempt to find a female companion in the limited microcosm of the sewers. I also decided to start drawing Cricket with gaiters, an early more utilitarian version of a spat.
Cricket used to wear those big Wellington boots, but they're are very fashionable right now, she was wearing them before it was cool, but hey she was just trying to keep her feet dry and gaiters do a damn fine job so... anyway if you want to read the whole James comic I've posted it on the link above. Enjoy

SPX YEAH WHOOO!

Check out awesome pics from SPX at Liz Baillie's blog. Super awsome karaoke pictures and more.
http://lizbaillie.livejournal.com/41505.html#cutid1
We got lost on the way from the hotel to the karaoke bar and all had to meet up in a parking lot, there were about 30 of us. Anyway, I'm sorry don't have any pictures, I did not bring a camera this year or any year to be honest. people take pictures of the summer to prove that it really existed-the kinks
To prove that I did have a chance to do some sketches, here's one of my favorites from a Dick Tracey themed sketch book,

Caped Crusader rescues me from Boredom

My latest job assignment is to come up with football related wallpapers, and I couldn't possibly be more bored and uninterested in it, luckily for me I was able to break up this up with some Batman sketches on the sly. I also want to make up for that intentionally bad Captin" America I did a few months back. I really do enjoy superhero comics, they just have to be drawn with competence and skill. I'd like to someday work on a mainstream comic superhero,. People always ask me, what character would you do a book for if DC or Marvel gave you your druthers. And I always say, Batman and Spider-man, and yeah I know these are the obvious choices and they 've been done to death, but they're is so much potential with Batman, the rouges gallery has so many good villains to choose from, and even if I did get put on something like Green Arrow, I'd probably have him fight a Batman villain. I'd probably use some under used character like killer Croc and instead of making him some kinda lizard man, I'd make him a guy who was severely deformed in an accident when he was a kid and has really bad egsima. A friend of mine was really obsessed with the Adam West
Batman for a while and would fill his sketch book up with drawing of West and Burt Ward as Robin. I figured I'd give it a go, I always thought West looked kind of cross-eyed whenever he had the cowl on.

breakin' promises

I know I said I wouldn't post anything else from work, but... these were just too hard to resist. I had to come up with some Halloween content and I didn't want to do the usual cardboard cut out witches and bats you see taped up in elementary school class rooms. I was thinking heavy metal album art, of course for this job everything has to be toned down and homogenized, but these were a helluva lot of fun to draw, Also got to do some Dia de los Muertos stuff too,
Enjoy.

Finished Aqualeung Pin-up

A Week Well Spent

Last week I spent in Poland, Maine visiting my fiend Matt Berier, he is an awesome cartoonist and was gracious enough to invite my girlfriend, Hilary and our friend Emily and I to his family's cabin right on a pristine lake. We had an amazing time, And to proved that it really existed, here are some pictures that Emily, who just so happens to be a very talented professional photographer, took. Unfortunately, despite the fact that there is a healthy moose population in Maine, we did not see a single moose, even though we did see some really great loons when swimming on the lake. While swimming at night, I imagined a Giant Moose-god rising from the water in all his mighty terror (mind you moose are highly aggressive and very dangerous so if you do see one, stay away, and don't hit them with your car, you will die) and Matt being the most daring swimmer and furthest from the shore would be the first to get trampled/squished?..uhh gored? (how would a moose kill you?) Anyway swimming in cold lake water at midnight gave way to these thoughts and hallucinations and so here's the drawing I stared in the hotel room Hilary, Emily and I had to stay in because the van we were driving tore its fan belt and the car over heated and.. well I'll go into more detail about that adventure some other time. Many thanks to Matt for his hospitality and taking us out on his boat and everything, See Matt's blog for lots more details and pictures.

Nothing beats the original

Liefeld is a GOD!

I've really been wanting to post one of these. I've been doing little homages to Rob Liefeld in my sketchbook ever since I did a Liefeld inspired version of Kid Flash (currently lost) at SPX last year. I think Cable as Capitan America says everything that is RIGHT about his man's artwork

New comic

I was at the Mocca festival last week, and I had the chance to show off my latest issue of Don't Eat the Electric Sheep. It's ish number 5 and I'm pretty excited. I had a really good weekend at Mocca, (New York's best indie comic convention) I've still got to make the rounds to all the local comic shops some time next week, so for those of you in the New York area keep a look out for it. For everyone else, you'll have to wait 'till I work out my current situation w/ Diamond. But enough about me, back to Mocca, the best find was at Angry Jim's table, he had these stuffed toys of his Pot Roast character from his Firefox comics.
http://www.angryjim.com/

I also got to meet Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick of Venture Bros. fame.
I was a little nervous but my girlfriend prodded me into going up and introducing myself.
It was embarrassing but I don't think I came off as a total psycho or ravenous fan boy.
Well more on the comic extravaganza that was Mocca in a few days, I still have pile of comics to get through.

Hey, This is my first post

So I've go all of this time on my hands since I'm sitting in front of a computer screen all day long. I figure why not a start a blog. That way everyone can bear witness to my innermost thoughts, and terrible spelling. Also let everyone know whats been going on with you know comics 'n stuff. First of all this is what i do at work all day.

Yeah, I design these wallpapers for cellphones, these are some of the ones I'm least embarrassed by. This is probably the only time I'm going to post stuff from work so, Enjoy.
